Ash scattering [海洋散骨]
こんにちは。

We will talk about ash scattering that is one of our job.
散骨についてお話します。
Ash scattering is “散骨(SANKOTSU)“ in Japanese.
Ash scatteringは日本語で「散骨」
Ash scattering is to crush the bone and scatter it in the sea.
散骨はご遺骨を粉骨し、海にまくことです。
For example,
a person who wants to return to nature, or
a person who does not have their grave,
ash scattering is a way they chose.
例えば、
自然に還りたい人、
お墓を持たない人
そんな人が散骨を選択します。
In Japan, there is a problem that there is no one who inherits their grave now.
日本では今、お墓を継承する人がいない問題があります。
The problem has caused roughness of their graves.
その問題はお墓が荒れることになります。
Because Japanese people respect their ancestors,
it is a very painful problem.
日本人は先祖を尊ぶため、
それはとても心の痛む問題です。
Therefore some of them choose ash scattering.
だから、散骨を選択する人がいます。

So, I will explain the ceremony of ash scattering.
では散骨セレモニーの説明をします。
We take a boat with our guest and go to the point of ash scattering.
船に乗り、散骨ポイントへ向かいます。
Sometimes, we go to Miyazima, on the way.
時には、途中で宮島に寄ります。
When we arrive the point of ash scattering, the boat stops and the ceremony starts.
散骨ポイントに着くと、船が止まり、散骨セレモニーが始まります。
First, we dedicate the sound of the bell.
まず、鐘の音を捧げます。（献鐘）
And they dedicate sake.
Sake is Japanese rice wine.
献酒。
Then they scatter the ash in the sea.
そして散骨。
Because we put the ash in the paper which dissolves in water,
it is very beautiful when it is dissolving.
水に溶ける紙にご遺骨を入れるので、
溶けた瞬間がとても美しいです。
And then they say their last farewell.
最後の別れです。
Then they dedicate many flowers.
献花。
The flowers make a road on the sea, it is very beautiful too.
花は海に道を作り、これもとても美しいです。
Then they dedicate drinks that their deceased’s favorite, something like coffee, tea, or beer.
故人がお好きだったコーヒーやお茶、ビールなどを
お供えします。
Finally we round the point by the boat.
最後に船で、ポイントを回ります。
Then we return to the port.
そして、港に戻ります。
That's all.

I didn't know that grave inheritance was a problem in Japan. That's very interesting. Thank you for writing this great explanation. I learned a lot! 英語の勉強、頑張ってください！

Thank you for your comment.
Now I am a lecturer of "end of life plans".
The graves problem is one of "end of life plans".
"End of life plans" has many other problems as well.
They are property inheritance, nursing care, type of funeral ando so on.
I hope that "end of life plans" become "happy plans".
